Life is short.
Take a picture.
Photography Statement
I first started taking pictures when my father was dying. My relationship with my father was not an easy person and his death brought a host of complicated feelings that often left me at a loss for words. Unable to describe what I was feeling, I began to take pictures - of everything, from his hospital bed to the food he was served, while in the hospital. I didn’t want to forget anything and somehow taking documenting this reality reassured helped me work through my grief. I also began to understand that as my father was dying it was my job to bear witness.
Since that time I have continued taking photos. I am particularly drawn to textures, colors and words- images of objects that yearn to be touched and seen and read. Taking photos helps me describe things that I cannot fully describe with words. I take pictures because I'm curious. Because it helps me see and understand. I take pictures because life is short and a photo helps me hold to a moment longer. I take pictures to bear witness and see.
